SMEs and Public Sector

The working group will examine the types of public sector support across the INTERREG partnership and review what has worked successfully, the impact of the support and how the activity can be adopted.

The Group explore how public agencies work to develop and deliver business support programmes to help businesses aged 3-5 years develop and become sustainable. The working group examines examples of best practice from across Europe and through presentations and group discussion looks at how the experiences can be practically transferred to benefit other partner regions.
Examples of support identified:

  • Business Gateway – Call centre, website, workshop & advisor support.
  • Scottish Enterprise – Support to high growth businesses.
  • Prince’s Trust Youth Business Scotland mentoring support.
  • The Supplier Development Programme procurement support.
  • Scottish Development International Smart Exporter Programme.
  • The role of events, ENewsletters, Social media, business awards, networking, internet connectivity, the role of business in community and on public sector boards taking place in Oldham.
  • Info points (business advice centres), Pont Inno Service, CEBBIS Service (technology Transfer service), Centrope – Innovation Cheque (Product Development funding) and loan support funding in Hungary.

At the end of this seminar, participants will have a broad knowledge about different public sector interventions for young SMEs that take place in Falkirk, Oldham and Hungary.
