OLDHAM WELCOMES DELEGATES FROM EUROPE TO LEARN ABOUT ITS WORK WITH YOUNG SME’S

The business and education community of Oldham has played host to delegates from 30 partner countries from across Europe in an event to highlight how the town works with young Small and Medium Enterprises.

The Civic Centre welcomed delegates from nations including Spain, Greece, Malta and Germany to discover how Oldham helps SMEs that have existed for between 3 and 5 years to grow and develop.  This is one of a series of events taking place across Europe led by the European Regional Development Fund to provide examples of best practice that delegates can implement in their home countries.

The programme featured speakers from Oldham Council, including Leader of the Council, Cllr Jim McMahon, Michelle Carr, Assistant Executive Director Economic Development and Planning and Jon Bloor Head of the Economy and Skills Unit.

Looking at the contribution that green technology has been making towards business growth in the region was something John Eley who manages Oldham College’s Green Technology Centre spoke to the delegates about.

John says, “It was great to be able to explain the training and support that the College provides to companies in responding to the new business opportunities presented by the Low Carbon agenda. We can all see new technologies such as solar panels being fitted and the new Green Deal scheme in October will encourage even more business opportunity. We were able to discuss progress with colleagues from Europe with whom we can collaborate in future projects alongside Oldham Council.”

Attending the event, Ana Santillán Henríquez de Luna, a leader partner from Cámaras INCYDE Foundation describes Green Technology Centre as follows, “It was great to hear John speak about the Green Technology Centre and to have a chance to look around the facilities.  The delegates have found it very inspiring to hear what is being achieved by the team at Oldham College.”
