Young SMEs Final Event- Streaming

The final event of the Young SMEs project will be held on November, 13 in Toledo, Spain. Toledo is a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (you can see a video here). 
  1.  Activities

 

  • As you know, the final event will start at 10AM. You have the information about the venue in the registration page .
  • After the event, we will offer you a guided visit to Toledo, the World Heritage site by UNESCO, by courtesy of the Chamber of Commerce. Really worth it!
  • The last official dinner for this project will be after the visit.

Young SMEs partners have come together to debate and exchange good practices on European and regional SMEs funding in Valencia.

Young SMEs seminar in Valencia

Three days program have allowed participants to present and discuss their own best practices on funding, as well as to assert that the European Union is on the good track prioritizing SMEs funding. Nevertheless, the partners have reinforced the need to focus on the three to five years old SMEs; since they are the weakest on the enterprise life cycle, although with the largest capacity to contribute to the economy development.

Going from general tools to more specific ones, including the European Bank of Investments; all speakers have contributed to give the audience, around a hundred attendants, an overview of the funding opportunities at European level.

 

 The host partner, the Department of European Projects and Funding (Valencian Regional Government), has chosen among its best practices to present the Credit line for Entrepreneurs of the Valencian Institute of Finance and to visit the City of Innovation, in particular the company Das Photonics.

FALKIRK TO REPRESENT SCOTLAND IN EU INITIATIVE TO AID EUROPE’S SMEs

Falkirk has been selected to representScotlandin a pioneering cross-borders exchange initiative to help fledgling SMEs throughoutEurope.

The Interreg ‘Supporting Programmes for Young SMEs’ is a three year project that aims to strengthen and stimulate cooperation between regions in the European Union, and ultimately share good practices between participating countries.

The project will bring Falkirk together with 12 partner countries from all over Europe including Spain, Hungary, Germany, Lithuania, Poland and Belgium, who will work to exchange experience in support programmes for young SMEs and improve their survival rates.

Launched in 1989, Interreg is an initiative financed under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and will see over 1000 project participants and up to 20 events take place at each partner’s headquarters over the next three years. As the only local authority inScotland to be selected,Falkirk will play host to the initiative’s partners at an event in September 2012.

Falkirk Council was selected to be a partner in the project through its delivery of the Business Gateway Contract on behalf of the Scottish Government for the Forth Valley area.   Falkirk Council also has a successful partnership with Falkirk for Business that enables businesses to receive funding advice, specialist business advice and enables local businesses to have a voice by providing the Falkirk Business panel.

The area’s economic development initiative My Future’s in Falkirk will lead on the partnership on behalf of Falkirk Council, which believes its involvement will strengthen Scotland’s contribution to the EU’s growth strategy for the coming decade, Europe 2020.

Falkirk Council’s Head of Economic Development and Environmental Services, Douglas Duff said: “Europe 2020 highlights the need to improve the environment for business inEurope, particularly for SMEs and to help them to sustain their business activity and compete globally. Our business support bodyFalkirkfor Business has been driving support and assistance to the business community for many years now, and the Interreg project will now compliment our Business Support Strategy and help us to develop this.

“The project will run till 2014, and throughout this period we will have the opportunity to share and indeed gain expertise from the existing business support structures for young SMEs in each country, and identifying the main problems that young businesses face.  This is an excellent opportunity forFalkirkand we look forward to working with our European counterparts.”

The recommendations from the project will be compiled over the next three years, with the ultimate objective being to create a “European Young SMEs Support Programme” that can

be delivered acrossEurope. In a practical sense, it aims to provide a tool kit that identifies the most effective ways of delivering support in the areas of business and market

development, cooperation among SMEs, management, SMEs & local networking and ICT funding.

 

Douglas Duff added: “With current economic conditions remaining uncertain, support for the survival of local businesses is extremely important. We want to keep our local businesses

sustainable, to help them grow, employ and export – to help them and to ultimately benefit the economy.  Our involvement in Interreg provides us with the opportunity to engage in a

new field of European trans-national activity, to establish new relationships and to learn from best practice acrossEuropeand benefit our local young SMEs.”

SOUTH-EAST REGIONAL AUTHORITY HOSTS SUCCESSFUL INTERREG PROJECT PARTNER MEETINGS IN WATERFORD CITY

The South-East Regional Authority (SERA) recently hosted very
successful Interreg project meetings and a thematic seminar with
partners from across Europe over 2 days in Waterford City, June 13th &
14th . Held in Waterford City Hall, SERA was pleased to welcome
partners from Greece, Spain, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Slovenia,
Hungary, England and Scotland to discuss and exchange knowledge
around the difficulties facing SMEs and micro-enterprises in Ireland and
across Europe. The Young SMEs project is an Interreg IVC EU project
funded under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF),
concerned with developing strategies and instruments to support SMEs
particularly in their early years of operations and specifically in years 3
to 5 when many of the traditional supports dissipate. The ‘Young SME’
project, commenced earlier this year and will last up to 2014, and it is
hoped that will have a positive impact on SME competitiveness in the
region.
The inaugural ‘Young SME’s’ thematic seminar was launched by
the Cathaoirleach of the South-East Regional Authority, Cllr. William
Quinn from Carlow, and included presentations on the South-East
region and the Regional Planning Guidelines 2010-2022 for the South-
East. The project partners were also addressed by the Mayor of
Waterford City, Cllr. Pat Hayes, and had the opportunity for detailed
discussions with the City Manager, Mr. Michael Walsh on the role of
Waterford city in the region and on the difficult environment for SMEs
in Waterford city. In addition, representatives from SEBIC and the
County Enterprise Boards also spoke about their roles in supporting and
developing SMEs in the South-East. The project groups were also
afforded the opportunity to visit the House of Waterford Crystal. In
concluding a very busy programme, partners visited the internationally
renowned ArcLabs Research & Innovation Centre at the WIT Campus in
Carriganore where they were met by ArcLabs Manager Tom Corcoran
and spoke with start-ups from the incubation unit including Conor Ryan
from BetaPond, and Eugene Crehan from SEEPP, presenting on ‘New
Frontiers’ a new entrepreneur development programme.
